AGI - IS IT ALMOST HERE?

The answer to the question above depends on who you listen to. Some people claim it is HERE already, others are a bit more hesitant and want more PROOF.
What do I think? I listen to the ones that are trying to create it. People like Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Ilya Sutskever, Altman´s co-founder who said,
¨AGI is not going to actively hate humans and want to harm them, but it’s just going to be too powerful, and I think a good analogy would be the way humans treat animals. It’s not that we hate animals. I think humans love animals and have a lot of affection for them, but when the time comes to build a highway between two cities, we are not asking the animals for permission. We just do it because it’s important for us. And I think by default that’s the kind of relationship that’s going to be between us and AGIs, which are truly autonomous and operating on their own behalf.¨
From that moment on, every time I see an ant or spider at home, I resist the need to squash it, but just pick it up and throw it out the window. By the way, Ilya also said,
¨The future is going to be good for the AIs regardless. It would be nice if it would be good for humans as well. But I think it’s pretty likely the entire surface of the Earth will be covered with solar panels and data centers because it will seek to harness every resource it can.¨
Again, the guys creating this technology are warning us about it. Are you kidding me? 😯😯
Anyway, a negative probability means there is a positive one also. So, what if humans can actually end up aligning with AGI and we are both able to walk towards the future hand in hand. Wouldn´t that be a wonderful thing? I surely hope so, because I am looking forward to having a world changing AGI that will allow me to focus and only worry about what I want to do with the rest of my life. In my case, that is writing, traveling, having great discussions with my friends and spending a fun time with my wife and children. That´s it. That is what makes me happy.

So, as I raise my glass of wine, here is to a world where every human can find a peaceful existence. One where every one can be happy and can enjoy life to the most; learning, playing, creating, loving. With no worries in our heads. Is that too much to ask?
Thanks for reading. Abrazos.
