CHRISTMAS IN TOKYO

It took me a while to realize that I had to, of course, write about Christmas in Japan. How could I not? The previous 12 years I spent this wonderful time of the year in Bogotá, Colombia with my family.

The lights, the food, family, the music, the food 😂🤣😜 It´s a dangerous time of the year to be thinking about being in shape. Between the Colombian Natilla - a perfect combination of cinnamon, condensed milk and shredded coconut and 650 calories per slice 😜🤣🤣🤣 (Maybe), and the iconic Buñuelo - a cheesy dough fritters made of cornstarch and yuca flour - it sounds weird but it tastes so good!!! 🤗🤗😜 (200 calories each), add to that bundle of happiness a great cup of coffee and everything is perfect after that.

In Tokyo we have lights and lights and more Christmas lights! It feels as if every local city is trying to outdo the other with lights. And Instagrammers love them too! Pictures here! Pictures there! Let me get this angle, no the other is better. 🤣🤣😂 As I ride my bicycle through the many neighborhoods I can see

how the young and old love to take their pictures. Of course, the religious part of the season is not there. Japan is not a Catholic country, but still for those of us who are, it is nice to feel a bit of that connection with the celebrations going on in our other countries.

Shibuya (above) as a walking destination. Thousands and thousands of Tokyoites walking around, eating, drinking, eating and shopping. I have to say it, in the end, this has become - just like everywhere else - another ´shopping ´ moment, another day to sell, sell, sell.

Including the food. For some reason Christmas pizza is a hot selling item here. I guess it is a party type food, and the ease of ordering it and cleaning it makes it an efficient and delicious holiday meal.

But the champion of them all, the Big Kahuna is... yeap! You guessed it! KFC big bucket. 😂😜🤗😃✌🏽I love it!!! Why not?

The commercials on TV, in the Subway, YouTube, people talking about it, it´s everywhere. And it is delicious! 😋😋😋 Who doesn´t love a bite of that crunchy, tender, juicy meat. Of course this means it is still a challenge, a huge one, to try to maintain your beautiful figure during the holidays in Tokyo.
