A Fringe Minority

This isn't the work of a fringe minority. That story is comforting and dangerous.

What we're watching unfold has the backing, active or passive, of most of the Republican Party. Some applaud openly. Others enable through silence. Both bear responsibility.

When a sitting president openly questions NATO's value, rationalizes authoritarian behavior, casts doubt on supporting Ukraine, and muses about acquiring Greenland "because we have the strength to do it", well this isn't fringe politics. It's normalized. Defended. Or met with calculated silence by the party's leadership.

Silence as complicity

NATO didn't invade anyone. Europe didn't propose territorial conquest. Developing nations didn't resurrect imperial thinking. These impulses are emerging from within the United States, sustained by a party that has traded post-World War II principles for power politics, cultural resentment, and loyalty to one man.

The postwar order — NATO central among its pillars — arose from brutal lessons. When powerful nations act without constraint, catastrophe follows. Borders fall to force. Democracies crumble. Millions perish.

That lesson is being unlearned now and it is being done rapidly and by choice.

This is America!

A party that once championed freedom now courts authoritarian logic. A party that once warned against strongmen now admires them. A party that once understood alliances as multipliers of strength now frames them as protection rackets.

The problem of the powerful in America is the absence of courage, historical memory, and moral clarity among too many of its leaders. History judges harshly those individuals and republics that exchange principle for ego, that mistake silence for safety. It offers no mercy to those who "knew better" but refused to speak.

This isn't mysterious. It's deliberate. It's a choice. Good by America.

Thanks for reading. Abrazos.
