Moral Bankruptcy on the Right in America

Let’s stop sugarcoating it. Let’s stop pretending this is a matter of opinion, free speech or “just politics.”What we’re seeing from much of the political Right in America today is what my dear old grandma used to call, ¨moral bankruptcy

And everyone needs to understand exactly what that means.

What Is Moral Bankruptcy?

It means having no ethical foundation left. No sense of right or wrong. No care for truth, dignity, or human suffering. It means you've traded in your moral compass for power, control, and tribal loyalty. And if you find yourself applauding uncontrollably when you see the videos of people being chased down, thrown to the ground, handcuffed and then sent to a prison in another country without a simple sense of justice given, well then, you have lost a big chunk of your soul.

What Does It Look Like Today?

Let’s keep it real. Moral bankruptcy on the Right looks like:

  • Cheering for a man who mocked the disabled, insulted veterans, bragged about sexual assault, and still became president.

  • Calling white supremacists “very fine people.”

  • Trying to erase the truth of slavery and racism from school textbooks.

  • Tearing families apart at the border and putting children in cages. Then calling it “law and order.”

  • Treating women like second-class citizens, trying to control their bodies while preaching “freedom.”

  • Using “freedom of speech” as a cover for spreading hate, conspiracy theories, and lies that get people killed.

  • Pretending mass shootings are “just the price of freedom” while doing nothing to stop them.

  • Supporting politicians who lie, cheat, and incite violence, because they “own the libs.”

  • Choosing guns over children, cruelty over compassion, and control over community.

This isn’t about economic policy or conservative values anymore. It’s about deliberate cruelty. It’s about justifying the unjustifiable. It’s about calling hate “opinion” and calling justice “woke.”

And If You’re Still Defending It…

So just in case you haven´t figured it out, what is it that you are actually defending?

  • A party that tells poor people to work harder while billionaires pay no taxes?

  • A movement that uses religion to control women but ignores poverty, racism, and greed?

  • A culture that attacks teachers and librarians and journalists while worshiping celebrities who lie for a living?

If you’re still cheering this on, you’re not standing for values. You’re standing on a pile of nasty, wet and smelly moral crap and calling it tradition.

It’s Time to Call It What It Is

This isn’t just “the other side.” This isn’t a disagreement over taxes or regulations. This is about the soul of a country. And a huge part of the Right has sold its soul to Trumpism, to fear, to racism, to control, to greed.  They don’t even pretend to care anymore. And that’s what moral bankruptcy looks like.

No, You Don’t Get a Pass

Don’t hide behind “economic anxiety” or “religious freedom” or “free speech.” You don’t get to burn the house down and say you were just concerned about the plumbing.

If you see the cruelty, the lies, the hate, and still choose silence or loyalty, you’re complicit. And if you feel a little uncomfortable reading this, good! That discomfort might still save you, because that is your conscience. You should listen to it.

Choose Something Better

We need honesty. Compassion. Accountability.  We need leaders and citizens who care more about people than parties. Who care more about truth than winning. Who understand that real strength means standing up to hate, not justifying it.

If you're on the Right and you still have your soul, this is your moment.  Walk away. Speak out. Reclaim your moral compass. The rest of us will respect that. Because history will remember not just what was done, but who had the chance to stop it, and didn’t.

Thanks for Reading. Abrazos.
