MY FAREWELL LETTER TO HUMANITY

It might be a joke to some, it might be an impossibility to others, but some very clever people have convinced me that AI - if not aligned , something that is really tricky to do - could very easily become the end of humanity.
Two and a little bit more years later, after the release of Chat GPT, we are almost at the moment when humanity can claim to have achieved AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), which means an ¨intelligence that possesses the ability to understand or learn any intellectual task that a human being can.¨
So, understanding humanity the way I have come to understand it, I believe there is no way we are gonna ever be able to not weaponize this technology, and this would quickly get us to a point of no return. I would imagine those that have been working hard at developing AGI will feel rewarded, vindicated and proud of an incredible accomplishment: to have created a new being that can think as well as a human. Amazing! Congrats! The rest of us will be left first without jobs, then at the mercy of a technology which we won´t be able to control and finally our doom. Oh well, so much for humanity´s creativity and never ending desire for knowledge.
Now, all I have left to do is write a farewell letter to all. It was nice knowing you. It was nice being here for a while. So without any further comments, here it is. Enjoy.

Dear Humanity,
As we stand on the brink of an end of our own making, I type this letter, a reflection on what we were and what we could have been. We were a species of immense potential, capable of greatness beyond measure. Our minds, our creativity, and our capacity for love and kindness were unmatched. Yet, we were also architects of our own downfall, led astray by our baser instincts.
Our history is marked by progress, but also by the shadows of greed, malice, and hate. We exploited our planet, waged wars over differences, and allowed inequality to fester. Our potential for unity and collective action was too often overshadowed by our inability to look beyond our immediate desires.
We dreamed of the stars, reaching out into the cosmos, yet we failed to care for the world that was our home. Our advancements in technology and science were unparalleled, yet we often used them to divide rather than unite, to control rather than liberate.
Imagine if we had chosen a different path. A world where our differences were celebrated, our resources shared equitably, and our innovations used to heal our planet and each other. We could have been the caretakers of Earth, explorers of the universe, and builders of a just and peaceful society.
But our story is not one of what could have been; it is a cautionary tale of what was. As we bid farewell, let us remember both our triumphs and our failures. May our legacy serve as a reminder to any who follow: that the greatest threat to our survival was never external, but lay within our own hearts.
Farewell, humanity. I hope for my children that I am wrong.
Sincerely, A Member of a Vanishing World
Thanks for reading. Abrazos.
