We’re living it, folks. The Infocalypse! Yeah, that’s right. The world is swimming in a flood of misinformation, fake news, and "alternative facts." It's like trying to find the truth in a sea of bullshit, and honestly, it's exhausting as hell.
You know what I’m talking about—everything is up for debate now. Was that video real, or just a deepfake? Did that politician actually say that, or is it some twisted version of a tweet from five years ago? Hell, even our own memories seem to be playing tricks on us. How the hell do we know what’s true anymore?
It’s not just annoying. It’s dangerous.
A Weird Little Memory
Now, let me tell you something that happened to me recently. You know how every once in a while your phone sends you a random compilation of old videos from years ago? You know, the ones you didn’t even know existed? Yeah, that just happened to me and... it really messed with my head.
One was a beautiful video about a day trip to the park when we lived in Bogotá, Colombia. My wife and I had taken our firstborn son there to let him feel the grass, to crawl on it for the first time. A sweet moment, right? But as I watched the video, something strange hit me—I couldn’t remember doing any of the things I saw myself doing in the video, right there. I saw myself smiling, holding our son, and walking around the park, but none of it clicked in my mind. It was like watching a stranger. I couldn´t even remember the clothes I was wearing. How the hell could I not remember that day? I was there, I know I was there, but the details... it felt like I was seeing someone else’s memory.
Well, this is actually natural. Bizarre, but natural, right? A mind design defense mechanism. Our memories are so fragile, so easily distorted, and so tied to feelings rather than facts. It made me wonder if reality itself is more like a feeling than a solid truth. I’m not saying it’s fake news or anything, but damn—it’s a weird sensation to feel like your own life is slipping away from you, piece by piece. Either way, I accepted it and really enjoyed watching us again that day.

The Problem With Misinformation
Memories are one thing. Our present reality is another. Here's the deal: when no one knows what's real, everything becomes suspect. If you can’t trust the news, the government, or even your own damn eyes, what does that do to society? It’s like we’re all stuck in a constant state of confusion and paranoia, just waiting for the next headline to blow our minds. The truth is, if you’ve spent more than five minutes on social media lately, you know exactly what I mean. It’s a mess.
You see something trending, and you think, “Yeah, that can’t be right. Is this even real?” Then you end up in an endless rabbit hole of opinions, fact-checking, and contradictions that make your head spin. We’re questioning everything now.
And that’s where the scary part starts.
The Rise of Authoritarianism
When people don’t trust the system, they look for someone who can give them the answers. And guess what? That’s when "strongman" leaders pop up. People are desperate for stability, and they’ll listen to anyone who promises to "fix" the chaos. Even if it means sacrificing some freedoms. Ha, they might even sell you on the idea that lies are necessary for "unity." Sounds familiar?
These leaders thrive on this mess. They use the chaos to manipulate people and gain power. They promise clarity, but all they really offer is more confusion wrapped up in a shiny bow. And people fall for it because sometimes a sense of order, just a little bit, is better than living in total mayhem. The problem is, the more you give away, the harder it is to get anything back. 👀
What’s the Solution?
I don't think there is. All I can say is be aware. We need to stop accepting everything we hear at face value. Question shit. Fact-check. Cross-reference. I know, it is a pain in the ass but… And for the love of all things holy, get your news from places that aren’t driven by algorithms that just want to keep you addicted.
This “infocalypse” isn’t going anywhere. It’s here to stay, and if we don’t start questioning the information we consume, we might as well kiss critical thinking goodbye. The truth is out there—probably hiding under a pile of bullshit—but we’ve got to dig through the mess to find it. 🧐
So, what’s the takeaway here? Don’t let yourself get swallowed by the chaos. Trust your instincts. Stay sharp and then stay sharp some more, because you never know what’s next.
Stay woke. ✌️
Thanks for reading. Abrazos.
