YOU BETTER REMEMBER...SORA!

It´s just a very simple presentation by OpenAI: ¨Introducing Sora, our text-to-video model.¨

It continues: ¨Sora can create videos of up to 60 seconds featuring highly detailed scenes, complex camera motion, and multiple characters with vibrant emotions.¨

Then, when you go to OpenAI´s main page ( https://openai.com/sora ) and scroll down and start to watch the videos created, well, OMG !😮😮

The quality, the colors, the movement, the creativity, the depth, the lighting. Where? How? Who? What?

All of those visuals created from just a few words? Well, it sure seems so. If you watch the YouTube Sora video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK6y8DAPN_0&t=4s ) the first example given at the 10 second mark, uses but 5 words of text : ¨A cartoon kangaroo disco dances.¨ Please, go ahead and check what Sora gave to the world. If that´s not an incredible presentation card, then I don´t what that could be.

A friend of mine, who is studying 3D animation right now in Canada, saw it and, a bit dumbfounded, said at once, ¨That would have taken me several months to create.¨ And then he went on to talk about the detail, the fur, the clothing texture etc. Of course he mentioned that it wasn´t perfect, but the result is significant. Truly amazing.

WHAT DOES ALL OF THIS MEAN TO US ALL?

Well, I know what it means to Tyler Perry.

Basically, after he saw what Sora could do, he said that he had “gotten word over the last year or so that this was coming, but I had no idea until I saw recently the demonstrations of what it’s able to do. It’s shocking to me.” From his point of view, at the top of the film industry, he realizes that ¨a lot of jobs¨ in the industry will be lost because of AI. This is a fact. We already know that money is what guides the hearts and souls of those in charge.

I also know what it means to me: freedom from those greedy mofos. Those that have decided that they are the ones to decide what gets created, what gets filmed, what gets distributed. And so the movie industry will go the way of the Music industry, where the artist finally, will have complete control of his/her creations, look, styles. The world will be fragmented into a thousand little pieces, niche markets of common genres and styles.

Well, kind of. I know I am being a bit of a dreamer. After all, Sony Music, Capitol Records, Atlantic records, and many others are still alive and well. But I do understand that, very soon I will have at my fingertips, the capacity to make a reality several of the many scripts that I have written. Movies and stories that I have always wanted to create and see on the big screen. How many of these I have sent to festivals, and competitions, and presented directly to producers and directors and ... nothing? That´s fine. That comes with the territory. But what I mean is that now, I will be able to use this incredible tool and give free reign to my imagination and have my own movie out there.

I am aware that there are many other points and arguments to analyze that have to deal with these AI tools, but that is not the purpose of this specific post. No, what I wanted to focus on is the incredible opportunity that SORA will give each and everyone of us to continue to be creative beyond anything possible before. So, grab on to whatever is dearest to you, and get ready for the new world of film making that is about to fall upon us. It´s gonna be so much fun!
